Aurum Vocale is a chamber choir based in Berlin.
We are around 25 dedicated singers united by a special passion for Baroque music – especially the works of Bach.
Each week, we rehearse and cultivate what we like to call “singing with our ears.” Critics have described our sound as both transparent and rich. With the idea of this special sound, we love to bring both old and new compositions and texts to life – for the joy of our audience.
The choir performs three to four concerts each year in churches across Berlin and Brandenburg. In addition, our concert tours take us to various places in Germany and abroad. Last year, we were invited to Norway with our program “German–Scandinavian Relations.”

Johannes Stolte
Johannes Stolte is Regional Cantor in Berlin-Kreuzberg at the parish Vor dem Halleschen Tor, where he is responsible for an ambitious program of church music. There, he serves as conductor of the Kantorei Passion and organist on the historic Hook organ. In addition, he teaches choral conducting at the State Music Academy in Rheinsberg and is a lecturer in oratorio studies at the Berlin University of the Arts (Universität der Künste Berlin). Concert performances as a soloist and chamber musician on the organ, harpsichord, and piano complement his work.
Johannes Stolte has previously taught as an artistic associate at the Institute of Church Music and with the State and Cathedral Choir (Staats- und Domchor) at the Berlin University of the Arts. He has worked as chorus master and assistant with ensembles such as the Berlin Philharmonic and the Gaechinger Cantorey.
He has participated in masterclasses led by Simon Halsey, Gijs Leenaars, Frieder Bernius, Stefan Parkman, Florian Helgath, and Jörg-Peter Weigle, during which he conducted, among others, the RIAS Chamber Choir (Rundfunkchor Berlin) and the Chamber Choir Stuttgart (Kammerchor Stuttgart). https://johannes-stolte.de/
repertoire
Our repertoire ranges from Gregorian chant to contemporary music, yet we always find ourselves most at home with Bach – motets are a regular part of our programs – and, of course, Gesualdo, Schütz, Brahms, Britten, Høbye, Nees, and many others.
Aurum Vocale
Nomen est omen: Aurum Vocale refers to a warm golden sound. Aurum Vocale can be understood as “vocal” or “resonant gold.”
In medieval imagery, gold symbolizes the divine – the infinity of space and time.
Well into the Baroque era, the idea persisted that music continues to sound on into infinity.
Thus, the circle closes for us: this idea reflects not only our aspiration for our own sound but also our connection to Bach.
Over more than ten years of our choir’s existence, we have grown close not only as people but, above all, in our sound.
This is how we wish to make music and to share it with our audience – may it continue to resonate for a long time to come.

History of the Choir
Aurum Vocale ist im Herbst 2021 aus dem Kammerchor des Berliner Doms hervorgegangen. Bis 2024 hat Tobias Brommann die Leitung des Chores fortgeführt. In 2024 hat der Chor mit Carolin Strecker zusammengearbeitet. Seit 2025 hat Aurum Vocale ein neues zu in Berlin Kreuzberg.
Carolin Strecker
Carolin Strecker arbeitet als Chordirigentin, Sängerin und Vocal Coach mit Sitz in Berlin. Sie studierte Chorleitung, Gesang, Flöte und Orchesterdirigieren an der Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Stuttgart und der Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin. Im Rahmen des Education Projekts der Berliner Philharmoniker übernahm sie Einstudierungen für Kirill Petrenko, Sir Simon Rattle und Simon Halsey und bereitete Kinder und Erwachsene auf Opernproduktionen und vielfältige Konzertformate vor. Als freie Chorleiterin interessieren sie vor allem kooperative und genreübergreifende Konzertformen. So realisierte sie mit dem Kammerchor cantamusberlin (Zusammenarbeit seit Oktober 2018) neben Konzertprogrammen wie Frauenbilder, sense of place und FLUTEN mit Auftritten unter anderem im Krematorium Treptow und im Sophie Charlotte Salon auch diverse digitale Projekte und Kooperationen mit Tänzern, Puppenspielern und Performern.
Für Aurum Vocale hat sie die Einstudierung und Aufführung des Adventsprogrammes 2024 übernommen.

Tobias Brommann
KMD Tobias Brommann ist als Kantor in St. Johannis Neubrandenburg tätig. Er war zuvor 18 Jahre Domkantor am Berliner Dom. Mit Aurum Vocale hat er einen Chor zusammengestellt, bei dem gemeinsam mit den Sängerinnen und Sängern an einem ganz besonderen Klang gearbeitet hat. Mit minimalen Gesten, setzt er auf maximale Tonpräzision und lässt so einen schwebenden, homophonen Chorklang entstehen.
